Animal Remover Gives Three Tips for Keeping Squirrels Out of Your Attic

In our last blog post, Animal Remover discussed some ways to deal with the problem of squirrels in the attic. However, the best way to avoid needing squirrel removal services is to prevent an infestation from starting in the first place. There are a variety of preventative measures that homeowners can take to keep squirrels out of their attic. In today’s blog post, Animal Remover examines three tips for keeping squirrels out of your attic.

1. Seal All Entry Points

Without an entry point, squirrels not only have a difficult time getting into your attic, but they also have little incentive to try. Squirrels wind up in attics because they find a clear passage to the inner part of your house. If they don’t have that passage, the chances of squirrels showing up in your home are small. At Animal Remover, we always suggest that homeowners seal off all potential entry points for squirrels. In particular, squirrels often use open vents and chimneys to get in. If you can seal off these entry points, the likelihood of squirrels invading your attic is much lower.

2. Keep Shrubbery and Trees Trimmed

As most people know, squirrels are most comfortable in trees. However, they will struggle to climb up the walls of most homes, especially homes with siding. Squirrels often find their way into attics when trees and tree branches get too close to the roof. These branches give squirrels a path to the roof and, ultimately, the attic. Keep your trees and other shrubbery trimmed, so squirrels have a tougher time getting to your roof and attic.

3. Store Firewood Indoors or in a Shed

A common area where homeowners store firewood is on the side of your home. Unfortunately, by stacking wood on the side of your home, you also give squirrels a head start to the roof. Try storing firewood indoors, in a shed, or against a fence. If you want to store it next to your home, be sure not to stack the wood too high.
