Why You Shouldn’t Try Swarm Capture On Your Own

Why Swarm Capture Should Be Left to Professionals

If you see a bee swarm in your yard, you may be tempted to try and kill them or remove the swarm yourself. This isn’t the best idea. Although swarms are fairly calm and docile, you should still trust a professional to perform the swarm capture. There are several good reasons for this. Today in the Animal Remover blog we’ll be discussing why swarm capture is best left to the professionals.

It Can Still Be Dangerous

While it’s true that swarms are typically docile, you still shouldn’t risk trying to do it yourself. For one, you could risk agitating the bees, which will cause them to sting. Also, if the swarm is in an unsafe location, like high up in a tree, you could risk hurting yourself trying to get to them. Finally, you could risk the bees having Africanized genes. While Africanized bees haven’t spread to our area, it’s better to be safe than sorry. These bees are highly aggressive.

You Could Hurt the Bees

While it’s unlikely that the swarm will hurt you, it’s very likely that you could hurt the swarm if you don’t know what you’re doing. You have to be very careful when transferring the swarm to the container. Also, the container needs to be suitable to house them while you wait for stragglers and scouts to return to the swarm. You want to minimize casualties. Bees are extremely important, so we want to keep as many alive as possible!

You May Not Fix the Issue

If you don’t perform the swarm capture correctly, the swarm may just return the next day. During a swarm capture, you have to get the queen. The bees will seek out the queen and return to where she is, meaning you wasted your time and the problem is still present. Also, if you don’t relocate the bees to a suitable location, they’ll just leave and find somewhere else to swarm. A professional makes sure that all of the bees are captured and that they’re moved somewhere they can start a new hive.
