Bats are not the scary flying blood suckers that horror movies have portrayed them to be. In fact bats are hugely beneficial to the environment. Bats typically devour two to three thousand mosquitos a night.

Do a monthly visual home inspection of the exterior of your home.
You don’t have to be a home inspector to perform a visual inspection like this. You are just simply looking for things that look out of place or different than they were before. If you notice a gutter hanging off the house or a construction gap that over time has become larger, you may possibly have a colony of bats living in your attic space. It is very common on newer built homes to have gaps large enough for bats to squeeze in. When building a new home, builders are concerned about water damage but they aren’t always concerned about gaps that may provide bat entry.
Keep an eye out for small elongated droppings around the perimeter of the home.
This is a sure sign that you need bat removal. Bats will often hang around the exterior of the home when living in your attic space.
Pay attention to noises that you may hear in your home.
Even though bats are nocturnal animals people still hear noises in their walls and ceiling during the day and at night. If you are hearing noises in your ceiling, walls, or attic space you may have a colony of bats living in the attic.
Check for discoloration of your soffit, drywall, or fascia boards.
Discoloration can be caused by two things: First bats have oil in their fur and when they rub up against something they leave rub marks. And second, the urine and guano deposits from the bats can discolor wood on soffits, fascia, and drywall.
Hang a bat house.

Keep an eye out for bats flying around your home at dusk.
If you see bats circling your home, you may very well have bats living in your attic space or somewhere nearby.
